If your spouse or partner is verbally or physically abusive, or you are afraid that they may harm you, the law does offer protection.

The Legislator enacted the Domestic Violence Act No.116 of 1998, whereby you can immediately obtain a protection order from court against somebody whom you believe may harm you, the police will serve the order, and if that person violates the terms of that order, which may include not coming near you, they will be arrested.

If somebody is harassing or continuously pestering you, the law offers a remedy under the Protection from Harassment Act No.17 of 2011.
